PHP-FPM backend servers started misbihaving (holding up database connections / segfaulting) for yet unindentified reason, and that incured in some downtime.
After restart of services everything is back to normal. Sysadmins tweaked service file so it would restart automatically on abnormal behaviour, so we shouldn't be seeing this happen again.
In the meantime we'll keep on investigating.
